Humulene: What the Research Says (and Doesn’t)

Humulene is the hops terpene — beer drinkers know its aroma well. Its research literature is small and almost entirely preclinical.

What researchers have examined

Alpha-humulene has been studied in rodent inflammation models, often alongside beta-caryophyllene, with which it shares plant sources. It is a major component of hops essential oil and contributes the woody, hoppy note to many hemp cultivars.

Open questions

No human research examines humulene from hemp products. Rodent inflammation models do not translate into any claim about people, and none is made here.
