Limonene: What the Research Says (and Doesn’t)
Limonene is the citrus-peel terpene, common in bright-leaning hemp cultivars. Here’s what the literature actually contains.

What researchers have examined
Limonene has an unusual research history: it has been studied for decades as a food flavoring with a well-characterized safety profile, and a small 1995 hospital study examined citrus fragrance in patients with depressive states. Rodent studies have examined limonene in behavioral models. It remains one of the most-consumed terpenes in the ordinary food supply.
Open questions
No controlled human research connects limonene in hemp products to any outcome. Its long history in food tells us about safety at dietary levels, not about effects.
